Auld alliance fosters new collaboration, bringing Scottish textile traditions to Europe.
Scotland Re:Design proudly presents DYE : WEAVE : PLEAT, an innovative collaboration of three heritage textile traditions in Scotland: natural dyeing, hand weaving, and hand-stitched kiltmaking. As part of our mission to champion Scottish fashion and craft internationally, SR:D has brought together leading artisans to create a capsule collection of kilts that reimagine these time-honoured techniques. This trio of heritage craft practises has united their skills through a shared vision of craftsmanship and contemporary design. They have produced a capsule collection of kilts, which have been selected for the 12th Maison d’Exceptions international showcase at Premier Vision in Paris, 11 -13th February.
Cavan Jayne (Cavan Jayne McPherson, colourist, Glasgow), Vevar (Chantal Allen & Christopher McEvoy, hand weavers, Glasgow) and Acme Atelier (Andrea Chappell, bespoke kiltmaker, Forres) have reconfigured traditional techniques in unconventional sequences, blending their crafts to create a contemporary expression of a garment synonymous with Scotland.
This groundbreaking collection has been selected for the prestigious Maison d’Exceptions showcase at Première Vision Paris, where it will be displayed alongside work from master artisans across Japan, India, China, and Switzerland. These global designers use ancestral techniques in straw, paper, hemp, wool, wax, silk, and pure gold threads. Maison d’Exceptions is an exclusive annual showcase of 20 global artisans with specific expertise, presenting contemporary and ancestral techniques to invited guests from the world’s luxury brands.
SRD is proud to present this collaboration, made possible with the support of a QEST Clothworkers Company Scholarship, as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering Scottish craftsmanship and innovation internationally.
